Suddenly when trying to start the D4 i discovered that the pinion lever on the pony motor had become loose. Not actually the lever but it seams that the axle is loose inside. What could be the problem and what to expect when repairing?

It is always something with old equipment.

Thanks MATS

Hi Mats,

My D4 pinion lever had jiggled around enough to wear the flywheel housing to a point that the lever that shoves the pinion into place could slip out of the groove in the shift rod. Maybe that is what has happened to yours.

In my case I had the engine out and the flywheel housing free of the engine so I could bore the shift shaft opening in the housing for a bushing to keep this from happening again.

Good luck.
