View Full Version : D8 D13000 Crackshaft undersize bearings

Hello everyone,

A Friend of mine is restoring old a D8 cat with a D13000 engine. The Crankshaft needed to be grinded so the machine shop grind it to (0.020") 0,50mm undersize. They recommended not to grind it to -0,050" (-1,27mm) because they considered it to be waist of metal and crankshaft. The idea was to by 0,050" bearings and have them turned to 0,020". The problem is that the aftermarket big end bearing were regular type bearings and not full alloy type like the old ones were.

Can I still get old type (full alloy) bearings for conrod big ends (in -0.050") somewhere? Bearings are same as in D342 engine.

Why are you not looking for -0.020 rod bearings if that is what you need.
You need to provide engine s/n and/or part numbers that your looking for.

I looked up the rod bearing numbers for the 1Hxxxx D8 tractors (D13000) and -0.020 bearings are still in the system.
A search on www.machinerytrader.com shows lower bearings 5B4316 to be available in the US.
Upper bearings 5B4317 were only available in Austrailia.

I didn't even know that there was -0.020" bearing available. There's only 050" size mentioned in the parts book.

This leads me to my another question. What's the difference between upper and lower bearing? Old upper and lower bearings look exactly the same. Since lover bearing would be easy to find, it would be so easy to use lower bearing in both sides.

Normally the upper bearing has an oil hole in it to allow oil to reach the journal. Did your old ones have a hole in one half and not the other or did both have holes?

Those bearings are identical compeared to the D342. So we ordered those bearings in 020 size from Regal and engine is now going back together with new parts.
