I was looking at some old photos that had 2 D-6 in the same frame.one had a cable lift and the other one had hydraulics. My question is what would be the year difference or could there be an overlap in the way models were equiped?

It was what ever the customer ordered at the time or they come out of the factory ordered with certain attachments ect.

I have a D6 9u18323 which my father bought new in 1955 in South Australia with a No 24 front mounted winch, he could not get one with hydraulics at the time in Australia, but I have seen plenty pictures of earlier serial numbers with hydraulics and all of these have been in the US, so they were certainly making both for some time. I hope to get my D6 going in the next year or so, it has not run in 20years. I tracked it down a couple of years ago, it had had 2 other owners since my dad sold it in about 1970.

Have seen a number of the 6S blades on U series d6's that had attaching points for rams or the cable shiv.A better question when did Cat stop making cable blades? The newest I have seen was a 36A D8.This tractor might have been set up more with the idea it was going to be used to haul a scraper with a little push Cat us.As it was purchased to work in a open pit mercury mining operation. But as the mining business has it's ups and downs, the mining partnership broke up and was used as a owner/operated general dirt moving contractor tractor until the 80's.

When did Cat quit making cable blades is a good question. I used to run a D8 46A (forgot the serial number) but at the time I knew it was a 1963 model having looked up the serial number in a Forke Bros. book. Sweet tractor with that blade. We pulled a #70 (or 80?) scraper with it also.
