Hi,
I just posted a thread on my J model liner installation, and a question came up about whether I should have put a "filler band" in place. I installed the called out copper seal ring, but on the factory cat liner, there is a relief groove at the top like it was meant to have some kind of extra seal there. You can barely see the groove one of the pictures.

My question is, was there a service bulletin or other upgrade done to also include this extra seal? I figured I would ask the experts before I talk to Cat.

I will be away for a few days but would appreciate in advance any input.

Thanks.

There are no filler bands used on the top of D2 ,3400 engines ,just the .030 thick copper sealing gasket under the liner flange to counter bore ,and the O ring seals in the bottom of liner to seal water in block to liner outer wall.
