Hi guys
My first post since joining so I hope I going about this the right way. I have a 98j serial no 2106. I have purchased every maintenance and operations manual, service manuals, technical information bulletins and a spare parts catalog. However I can't seem to find any mention of specifications eg gear ratios, speeds, fluid capacities, fan belt size and general dimensional specs. None of this is critical but I would like to know a lot more including things like traps for young players (even though I am 62). I have been trawling though the discussion archive and using advanced search but my apologies if I should have found this info myself.

If you have all that information you need to study it closer. Transmission speeds and gear teeth as well as capacities and general dimensions are covered in the parts book. Also need to look into the Lubrication and maintenance guide form #GEG00665 in the back of the service manual.
About the only thing you won't readily find is the dimensions of the V-belts.

My apologies and yes gear speeds are in the spare parts manual and I am sure now that the other info will be there too. For the record the fan belts are B70 which I with a bit of trial and error. If I could seek your indulgence with a question - when guys say final drives are a weak point what do they mean in terms of what actually goes wrong eg bearings and seals or more catastrophic failure like shattered gears or broken shafts.

Weak final drives usually refers to your later catastrophic failure.

If it's in reference to the D5 remember it is really an earlier D6. They are not particularly weak until you go trying to make it perform as a late D6 or D7 with compound final drives.

Once again thanks. This is the sort of information I won't get out of manuals and why I joined this forum. I look forward to taking advantage of your knowledge and experience as I get to know my D5.
