Hey Team,

Should I take the Siamese Twin D8 to Brooks on August 6 & 7? Do they still do the Parade? Is it wide enough for it? I need 18' minimum, 20' is better. It will be at Peterson Tractor in Eugene, Oregon on July 30th. So it will have to be the 2nd week end. Any interest for me to bring it?6161561616

Last year they did the parade. If I'm not thrashing I'd be there for sure. Probably the only chance I'll have to see it.

Hello Glen,
Yes, lots of interest. The only tight spot in the parade is the southwest corner but still clearance enough. The Founders Chapter Tent has lots of open space area.

Hi, Glen.
I think the parade route would be wide enough. It certainly is along the front half of it. I have not walked the back half of the route but I think it would be wide enough for the 'Twins'.

It might be worth checking with the Brooks management but, even if it went there without the blade, it would be an eye-opener.

Just my 0.02.

Glen,
You would not need to travel on the back half or north half of parade route, obout 100 yds from southwest corner going north turn right on the road behind all the Rumleys and the Founders Tent is about 50yds on right.

Hey Droptube,

Is there a 15,000 lb fork lift at the site? I need to lift the dozer blade off the lowboy?

Hi Glen,
I will check on it tomorrow for you and let you know. I will be at Brooks next weekend with Founders Chapter and the Logging Museum. I will leave the RD8 home so there will be more space for the Siamese. If I can help just let me know. Scott

Hey DropTube,

Thanks for the help. Can you get me a contact name and number for someone at the park. I'll plan on moving in on Friday August 5th. I'll have a Peterson Mechanic show up and help with assembling the blade. It will be on a 7 axle transport. The load is 14' wide and with blade on grows to 16'-41/4". I'll plan on dis-assembling and hauling out Monday August 8th. Then it goes to Peterson's new facility being graded in Hillsboro, Oregon for 3 weeks or so. 6162361624

Hey Team,

Ok... Had some planning meetings with my son and staff. Kevin is working on extra width and extra weight permits. Getting close on what is allowed on the drivers, I'm 43,440, 440 lbs too much. I should be able to transfer some more on the steering axle. The trailer groups are fine. The gross load is just under 122,000 lbs.

I talked with Marv Fery tonight. Things are getting planned out. If your going to Brooks the first weekend, you might want to go the second weekend also. Who knows, I might get crazy enough to bring Mary Ann too. That one is still a thought, but the Siamese is going for sure. 616346163561636

Photo #3 is a doozy. I wonder if the two types of doubles have been in proximity before? Glen, does the driver have to lean over to change the left side transmission or are there two levers on the right side?

Hey Neil,

The operator can reach all the controls from the seat except the posi disconnect. You need to sit forward or stand to reach that one, but both transmission and forward/reverse levers are reachable with comfort.

Yes... It's was a real jaw opener at Peterson's Event with the Special Tractors. They just finished with another round of Mary Ann's relatives a year or two ago going to the South Pole again. Peterson Tractor is known for unique and special builds. Very cool stuff.

Very good to see the doubles in the same picture .

Thanks for all the efforts you put into making your treasures available to the public for viewing Glen and team.

HeyTeam,

I was just wondering if I should haul Mary Ann to Brooks also? Any interest on seeing a SD8-LGP from the South Pole??? I'm teetering back and forth on it.

Glen,

While I will not be able to be at Brooks, I believe the locals that live near there, that may not be able to go to Santa Margarita, would really enjoy seeing Mary Ann in person, so my vote is to take her there.

AND, Happy Birtyday to you.:music:

Hey Team,

Tomorrow morning at 5am I'm heading up with our lowboy to Redding. We will load up the Siamese and head North to Eugene, Oregon. The Siamese will be on display a week there at the Peterson Tractor Store.

Hey Team,

Caltrans permit dept was backed up. Waited a couple of extra days beyond normal for permits. We pushed the haul back a day. We departed at 5 am and finished unloading at 7pm tonight. It was 105 degrees while loading. The Siamese is at Peterson Tractor located in Eugene, Oregon.

Next Weds I'll haul Mary Ann up to Brooks. Thursday go get the Siamese to Brooks. Friday install both blades and clean then up. See you all in Brooks August 6 & 7.

Hey Team,

Ok... So Weds at 6am I'll hit the road with Mary Ann loaded on my 10' wide 7 axle low boy. I'll put out riggers on to get 11'-10" wide deck. We will drop Mary Ann off at Brooks, and then double back for the Siamese Twin D8 in Eugene. Friday we will install dozer blades and clean up. I hear rumor Ed Akin may fly up Friday too. I'll pick him up. It'll be the first time Ed has seen it in person since completed. He saw it just prior to completion. It will be a pretty cool parade will both Mary Ann and the Siamese running together.
See you all soon...

Well I'm glad you had a good show! As bad as I wanted to see the girls and meet you all, we had wheat to cut and got done before the .65 inch of rain we got today. Maybe next time.

Hey Glen,

First off, thank you for sharing the photos of the girls at the Brooks show. They look great!

As I was looking at the photos the thought struck me (OUCH! A thought in my head???? OH it hurt so much. ha ha ha).

Anyway, in all seriousness, what are the width measurements of the two blades. Are they close enough that the blade part of each one is interchangeable? Meaning are they the same width? I'm just curious.:thumb:

Glen,
They look great sitting side by side, people will never know what effort it takes to move those machines from place to place, thanks for taking the time, money and effort to share those treasures with fellow Caterpillar Collectors.
