I visited 81 year old John Matta in Riverside CA and bought a brass crank and brass gas cap for my Cat 20 that he had manufactured. John then took me to his several acre bone yard nearby where he had so many old gas and diesel Cats and parts of Cats that I wasn't able to count them all! Some are just parts machines but several are complete and up for sale. John is the former shop foreman for Johnson tractor in Riverside and really knows old Cats. I don't think he has a computer, but when he is't traveling all over the world, he can be reached at (951) 689-6475

Have any of you heard of Blumaq, Inc? I recently rebuilt my D6b and they had parts available that both Regal and Cat showed as discontinued. Their prices were comparable to Regal. They are a Spanish company, but have an office in Miami. Several of the parts I needed were in Spain, yet I received them by FedEx in 4 or 5 days, with the shipping included in the price. They were very helpful and friendly. Their website isn't very good, but you can call at (305) 593-1040.

Have any of you heard of Costex Tractor Parts? I heard they have over 40,000 line items specifically for caterpillar replacement parts, at over 60% less than list price.

Check them out, www.costex.com. They have two locations, in Miami and Dallas. Call them at 1-888-CTP-0580.

:) I have been dealing with Bill Campbell who has Carb kits and parts for the Ensign and Zenith carbs for Cats. Very knowlegable and reasonable with the prices. Bill will also work with you to develop parts that he is not currently stocking. Bill will have a table set up with parts and kits at the BEST SHOW ON TRACKS in June in Woodland, CA.

Check out Cunningham Equipment Services, we're out of Seattle. We specialize in Surplus OEM Caterpillar parts. We don't tear down machines we buy inventories so 98% of our parts are new OEM CAT.
We have the inventory of parts from the Homestake mine in Northern California, Carl E. Smith in Virginia, a dealer in Brazil that liquidated his CAT inventory (some really old stuff in that deal) a pipeline in Canada, and a few other spots along the way.

I've done business with just about all the dealers mentioned earlier. I send Dana a lot of parts. Don't work much with Costx, Blumaq, American Crane and Regal as they are the aftermarket fellas but we buy and sell with them from time to time. I bought an engine from Albin back east for a customer a few months ago.

Anyhow, I think I've got a lot of parts you guys will be interested in.
Give me a shout (206) 399-7572 (Pacific time please or you can leave a message) or send me an email Bryan@CunninghamEquipment.us You can check out our website CunninghamEquipment.us it's pretty basic and has our contact info.

Billy - You will only be able to get a few basic parts for the 2T from a Cat dealer, such as seals and bearings, and some other common parts that have been in use for decades, such as pins, fasteners, filters, etc.

You're talking about a 64yr old tractor .. and being able to even get ANY part, new, for a tractor that age is a miracle .. when most companies don't supply parts for anything over 25 yrs old.

You will need to start out on a hunt for good used parts .. and you'll be doing some running around, and making a lot of calls. Most tractor wreckers don't even bother with stuff this age, and there's not many left, to be parted out, anyway. You are best served by making as many contacts as you can, in the vintage tractor/machinery groups. Where are you located?

Billy-

Hi, Folks.
Here is an outfit that specialises in cast iron repairs. Either they will do it for you in their shop or they can send you the technology to do it yourself, anywhere in the world - so they say.

If you try them, please post feedback here for other people's assistance as I only know they exist, not how good they are.

Hope this helps several someones.

Hello folks new to this site and wanted to add to the great information here. it's a local machine shop that specialises in engines and the odder and more obscure the better. They can make pretty much everything except castings in house and are good on prices. I was in once getting some regular work done for my old truck and they had an old bi-plane engine being rebuilt. they machined almost everything new there. another time an old John-Deere had a new crank made for it. They take orders from everywhere and do dang good work. here's the info:

Cornett Machine Shop Inc.

They have a very large net work of people they get parts through, new old stock, new, used, and after market. They have been locating parts for over 30 years. They recently got me parts out of Canada, that nobody else was able to locate. The are very reasonable on their prices as well.

I paid a visit yesterday to the Fresno Tractor boneyard! Oh Boy! Nothing earlier than D2s that I could see but D4, D6, D7, D8 and D9 carcasses were well represented plus IHC and AC in great numbers. Contact Carl Urive 559-233-2174 or curive@fresnotractor.com. I got two nice used carrier rollers for my 14A D8 from him. 6104261043

Just a note: I was looking for some parts a year ago or so (might have been 2-3) and called John Matta in Riverside. He said he was out of the business. Seems somebody came in and offered him a good price for his whole bone yard of old cats and since he was getting up in years, he decided to take their offer.
A few days later they showed up with a bunch of low-beds and started loading everything up. He asked them where they were going to take it all so he could refer his customers. They said it was all going to be shipped to China for scrap!!!!:jaw:
We both damn near cried on the phone.

That's s sounds ridiculous. This thread is a good source for those who are looking for parts. Does anybody know any good suppliers around Arlington VA (http://www.towingarlingtonva.com/)?

Have any of you heard of Costex Tractor Parts? I heard they have over 40,000 line items specifically for caterpillar replacement parts, at over 60% less than list price.

Check them out, www.costex.com. They have two locations, in Miami and Dallas. Call them at 1-888-CTP-0580.

anybody have experience getting new clutch/brake handle grips?
I'm guessing they're the same for different machines, but specifically need them for d7, d6, d2.

Just returned from Williams Field Service, Highway 2 West, Havre, Montana, 59401, with a nicely rebuilt D73T pony and some other parts. Dave Williams has acres of vintage Cat dozers, graders, and other machines, some running and for sale, many good parts machines, and bins of parts inside his large shop where he repairs anything diesel. 30 years of collecting Cats, and a Cat employee for 10 years before that. very knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. loves the old machines. 406-233-8484.
