That engine appears to be a match for a 7J3512 - 7J5103 D4400.
1940 - 1941.
Blade is much later off a D4C, 40a type.

It is a D4400 Industrial Eng. built in early 1936 starting at Ser. No. 4H9001 and later in 1936 after the ran to 4H9999 the went to 3R2001 It would be the match for a RD4 but the 4G,7J,2T,5T were all the same Eng. And Im very sure its not same Ser. No. on back of tractor

What you have is a 1936 6G30 gas tractor that has a 1936 RD4 diesel engine.
Cookie: Willie is correct on the 6G 30 gas tractor chassis explaination. But, I'm surprised your tractor had matching serial number tags (4H9953) on both engine and transmission. Most industrial engines only have one serial number tag for the engine. Where did the matching tag come from?

no idear im afraid she was bought of a man who owned her for 30 years no history known, the tractor has a lot of grey under the yellow and green in places? got the pony fired for the first time today after she had no spark what a lovely nosie that is to hear after making my arms 2 inch longer from all that pulling!

"Small brass tags" were probably home made. Unit appears to be a "hybrid" as in made of various D4 components. Check the details of the filter housing and injector arrangement and it matches that of the
7J models I previously mentioned. It's not old enough to be a 4G unless a lot of bolt ons were changed as well.
cookie: Based on your radiator photo (09052010026.jpg), the fin spacing looks extremely course. Most early D4's have fin spacing of 4 fins per inch or 5 fins per inch. Yours appears to be 2 or 3 fpi. You might want to check it. This may have come from the industrial application with different rating and/or fan speed. For a parade tractor it probably wouldn't matter, but if you intend to work this tractor hard in high ambient temperatures you may experience over heating - watch the temp gauge closely.

thanks for the info on that she would do bits and pieces but nothing to major,il keep a close eye. thanks everyone for all the info thats been given to me. top lot of men.
cookie: I'm curious about your fin spacing. The picture may be misleading, but it appears to be a very course spacing and unusual for a CAT track type tractor. Could you measure it? It's easy to do, just lay down tape measure and count number of fins in one inch.
Hi Team,
it is most likely a special core for working in conditions where trash, chaff, lint, grass fibers etc can clog a standard spacing finned core. These were available as an attachment on some machines and indeed we did fit some at The Dealer to 943,955,973's etc working in tip applications etc. The belief is that the trash will pass straight thru and they do work better than a partly clogged std core and are easier to clean if clogging occurs.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

KCB, But don't forget thats the oil cooler though.
RD6 Plower: Excellent point. The D4400 engine of that vintage would have a full width oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Looking at the photo again, I do believe that shown is the oil cooler. Previously I didn't see the projected part and thought it was the radiator. And oil coolers do have courser fin spacing.
