    Default 955 Clutch

How do you adjust the clutch on a 955? I know you have to loosen the blocks, but what is the trick to getting to clutch to turn?

You need to loosen the 2 locknuts two turns and turn the adjusting ring clockwise approximately three inchs to tighten and tighten the locknuts to a torque of approximately 30 pounds feets

Okay, I just bought this one and it has tightened itself. I wanted to adjust it correctly myself before I was positive it needs a clutch. They guy I bought it from says it won't stay in adjustment, but I wanted to give it a try myself first. You know the old "I hope they just didn't do this right" thing.
    Thanks

Sometime it could hapen than the tread on the ring are too worn and it desajusted by vibration and don't forget to retight the locknut after adjusting.

You might try replacing the nuts on the locks, maybe with nylock nuts or use a jamb nut on top of the first one so you are using the best threads which would normally be sticking out of the first nut doing nothing.

That won't help if it's the adjusting ring that's stripped, but you might have ones that the lock tab nuts/studs are stripped on.

    Cool

Finally got the clutch to adjust. It took a long prybar and a 4lb sledge to get it to move. Wow it was tight, but what did I have to lose. It is now too loose, so I'll try to tighten it up this weekend. Atleast it locks in and stays now. I think they just weren't getting the locks tight enough.

did you loosen the 2 keepers as described??

They are 180 degrees apart and hold a block that clamps the clutch to prevent it from moving.

which way did you turn it??

if it locks in place, why do you think it is too loose??

I have a 955-12A and redid the clutch this past summer.
