    Default converting 22 cat to electric start

    hi i was wondering can i convert my 22 cat to electric start and if so could i get some information on the issue with part numbers thank you very much

    Yes you can convert it to electric start. Not sure of all the stuff you need but pull the starter cover off of the engine and see if it has a ring gear on the fly wheel, if yes then all you need is the starter, and I don't know what the starter number is. If on ring gear then you will need to remove and find and install ring gear. Some one on the forum has posted a parts list in the past. A friend of mine has used a flywheel from a Honda automatic transmission bolted to the front pulley and used a starter from a Toyota. It works and it is all under the front of the engine so you don't see it with out looking for it.
    Sounds funny, like a car when it is cranking. Lots easier then pulling the engine, just not original.

    One of the club members just converted one using a ring gear form a Ford 390 CI V8.

    I have one that uses a AC/Delco starter. I'm not sure what ring gear is on it. Mine has a battery to start, but no alternator since the front gear drive is powering a hydraulic pump.

    I charge the battery about once every three months.

    I just convered one and I have all the information and how to machine the flywheel if you need it please let me know. I also have a 22 teeth gear for the gen if you go that way.
