Default D4 7J1288 Transfer Pump info needed.

Hi, I am a new member looking for info on the transfer pump on my D4 7J1288 crawler. The pressure is very low and I am checking to see if these pumps can be rebuilt.I had it off and apart and it has had some work done to it before. There doesn't seem to be any gaskets between the layers so how does it seal? I used gas resistant sealant when I put it back together. I have a few other pumps off other D4's but the bolt hole patterns are smaller. Can I take a few apart and make one good one up? If so what worn parts do I look for? Also there is some sort of a valve in an additional part where supply line attaches to bottom of pump. What is this valve for? This valve doesn't look to be in very good shape.I think the parts book calls it a plunger. Any info is appreciated!

The valve in question is the pressure relief valve. If it's as you say, not in good shape, that could be the reason for low fuel pressure. Check with Cat and see if you can get another one along with a new spring, and check the seat where it sits. If that's worn, you might be able to take a file and lay it flat and file the seat a bit to clean it up.

    Default D47J Transfer Pump

Thanks everyone for the info! I called my local Cat dealer and the plunger for the relief valve part # 8B8917 updates to 9M4608 and is $51.15 (Canadian). Dad has an old trunk full of old D4 parts (Mostly new) so I will first do some rooting. I would like to completly rebuild the transfer pump but want all the info I can get before dissasembly. Are the two seals within the pump body rubber seals or just packings? It will give me a heads up of what to look for in the trunk as some of the part numbers on the pakages of the new parts in the trunk are worn off. Also will "Loctite 515 Gasket eliminator" be good enough to seal the pump layers? I have a few other pumps (smaller bolt hole pattern) to take apart (as a guinea pig) to get the feel of it. Perhaps with some measurements of these other pumps I could find tighter tollerance parts to make up a better pump??? Thanks again!

Default Correct Link for Fuel Transfer Info

    Colby,

Here is the link for questions on the transfer pump. Eddie's link was for the pony motor water seal to the main block.

You can do a search and probably find all the info you need.
