If your referring to cable blade I wouldn't worry about it although the HD version is six part vs 4 part shieve arrangement.

If your thinking about direct pull winching with the CCU that's not what it is intended for. Single strand pulling is limited to about 5,000 lbs and depends on the looped shieve arrangement to achieve desired pull.

I would imagine the clutch on the PCU would slip first before it broke a rope . .Inspect the rope regularly and replace when nessasary .

It's certainly possible to break the wire rope, but I think it happens more often by smacking the blocks together as you lift the dozer than just digging up stumps. Never run a D8 though!

Need to try not to let the dozer drop too fast and then "catch" it, but also don't need to let the winch backlash and the cable get all wrapped over and on top of itself. Always make sure to have enough cable on the CCU drum that there's still several wraps on the drum when the dozer has dropped all the way down as you are going up over a hump. That keeps the strain off the keeper and the wedge or clamp.

    Boot,

Your cable unit could be either one, that’s not that much difference in the two for this conversation. As OM has stated the early D8 2U came with a four (4) part line and later a six (6) part line. I see you have said “trying to push out a stump” if your unit and cable are in good shape and the stump is large and solid you will no doubt only be raising the rear end of that old 2U right off the ground and with its nose down as well in trying to push it out, then again that’s doing it the hard way for large and solid stumps. Having said that, before trying to bull out a large tree stump in that manner, you could tilt the dozer down on one corner and rip up the root growth all around the stump before trying to push it out…am sure you’ll have better luck by doing so. As stated above, the unit by itself is not intended to be used as a winch of any capacity. Good luck in clearing out your stumps

Your D8-2U most likely has the #25 CCU s/n 9D501-up.

    The later #25,125,126 CCU's s/n 32E1-up are not listed for the D8-2U.
They are used on D6's 8U/9U's and later (#126 )plus the D5's (#125)
