    Default Putting a D68U Starter on a 955

Will this D68U starter work on my new 955 12A. The 955 already has the hole cut out in the bell housing for a starter and the 8U starter has a divorced solinoid so it should have planty of room.

    Thanks, M-

    Hi Mike,
That's what you would have got if it were factory installed. Do the glow pugs too. Shame to cannibalize that 8U though.

Just for giggles. Where is the hole in the bellhousing on a 955? I want to see if I have one too. My pony is limping a little and may need to be put down.

Jeffrey, the 3 bolt starter hole is below the pony pinion on the left side.

OM, Is this a 24volt starter?
I have a cool logging R5 with poor undercarriage so the plan is to put the D6 undercarriage on the R5. Looks like it will work except for the bottom rollers.

Yes on the 24v. That's all they offered back then.....good design, works well. That's an early Delco Remy 40MT starter. Treat the inertia type starter drive (bendix) well as they are getting hard to find.

Old Mag. The 8U already has glow plugs will those pre combs work in the 955 head?

If so any tips or suggestions when swapping pre combs?

    Thanks Again, M-

    Yes, same chambers and parts.
You will probably have to change the shims/washers to index the glow plugs so they don't interfere with the fuel lines.
Be sure to "antisieze" the threads.
