d2 transfer pump wanted

Looking for a good transfer pump to fit a 3j d2. Mine works at fast idle and running speed but dies at low idLE. Installed a electric fuel pump to start it, but the battery is a pain. Also looking for water tube from the water pump down to lower outlet. thanx.

Before you replace the entire pump, check the pressure relief valve for crud or a broken spring. That's the most common cause of low pressure. .crud gets behind the poppet and fuel bypasses. Also a weak spring can cause the same thing. While you have the poppet off, also check the face where it seats for wear and draw file it if needed to get it flat again.

As of a couple of years ago Cat still had 'em on the shelf. As I recall, the valve and spring was somewhere around $20.

Thanx for the reply. I have done that, and it helped but the gears must be worn enough so I don't get enough pressure at low speed.

One other thing you can check is the bottom plate on the pump ,see if the gears and dirt have worn circlar grooves in the plate .Water and dirt from the tank and lines go directly to the bottom of the pump,because there is no filter between the tank and pump .This will cut the efficency of the pump . I have repaired several by laying a piece of sandpaper over a sheet of glass ,and rubbed out the grooves .Also have sent 1 bably grooved to a machine shop ,and had it milled flat .

I have a parts book and near as I can figure the number is 5B9998 fuel tranfer pump group. Any help would be appreciated. thanx

I looked at mine and it has 4b9046 so I think it would work, any chance of a picture and price. I'm definetly interested. I am working on two different cats,mine and a freinds and they both seem to have the same pump problem. thanx
