    Default Serial Number identification?

I found a cat motor and pony at my local junk yard today and need some help identifing it. The serial number is 8T 6317. its a 6 cyl. the guys at the yard said it came out of a grader that was drove to the yard to be scrapped. after they cut the grader to pieces the motor and tranny i would say were left and put in the cast pile. I have a 5R D6 cat that these pony motors look identical. Any help would be great as far as parts interchanging between the two machines. Thanks Guys!!

8T6317 uses the later D318 engine. The pony is the same as your 5R except the mag and mag mounting cover is different but can be interchanged. Other than that there is no interchange between the D318 and the D4600.

    Default grader engine

I wonder what clutch that the grader used, I would like to find a clutch housing for a 318 in a D6-9U. Some one has ground off all the bolt bosses for the starter on the present housing. The pony motor is in sad shape. Curious if you had any more info on the engine.

I really don't have any more info on the motor. The guys at the junk yard knew little about it. Its a complete motor and transmission and possible final drives? The chain sprockets for the tandem rear wheels on the grader is still attached. Hope that helps.

There is no interchange between the grader (foot clutch) and transmission arrangement and the D6 "U" models.
