Buster Peterson 'Thinking Outside The Box' Display - 2014.

Hi, Folks.
The same people who brought you the Best Show On Tracks in 2008, Best Of The West in 2010, Best Show Harvest Spectacular in 2011 and FIRST EVER working vintage earthmoving display at Tulare last month are planning another big one for mid-2014, again at Woodland, Ca.. How do I know? 'Cos this time, I am a (small) part of that group.

One of the major attractions that we hope to have, another idea from the fertile mind of 7UPuller (See, Glen. I'll put you in.), is a comprehensive display of information about Buster Peterson's inventions and innovations. Even better would be to have some of Buster's toys there on display, maybe even working. With this in mind, I would like to ask for anybody who has any information about any of Buster's toys to contact me, either through the forum or by e-mail, to say what they have that they could make available for this display. Pretty much anything would be acceptable, photos, magazine and newspaper articles or clippings, personal experience with these machines and especially any information about any of them that still exist.

Of particular interest would be any information about any of the siamesed D8s, the tandem and triple 657s that were built for Peter Kiewit on the San Luis Canal Project, the offset D8 sidebooms, the double ended 631 compactor, the hoeing scraper and, last but far from least, the DD9s. Let's see what we here on the ACMOC forums can do to make this exhibit a real monument to a man with real vision and see what we can learn about the man and his toys in the process.

You read my mind, I was going to e-mail you with results this week. I got a message from the owner and President of Peterson Tractor Company granting permission of using Buster Peterson name and the concept of the Play Area. Mr Doyle (owner) informed me that he just bought a DD9-g in Alaska and is shipping it to San Leandro, Ca. He sounded excited about the idea we are working on. I am glad you are on the Team and know you will hunt down the Toys.-glen

That's good news about Duane buying that DD9G and having it shipped down to San Leandro. I have still have not had a reply to the e-mail that I sent to Peterson Tractors.

I e-mailed Tom to ask if he had any thoughts about breaking the 'Royal' impasse regarding the Texas Saimesed D8s. I guess he must be busy. I now have photos of all three Siamesed D8's, a video clip with a very short shot of one of them and know who had two of them. The third one that went to Lawrenceburg, Ohio, pushing coal seems to be a little harder to track.

C'mon, Folks. Let's see what information we can dig up about these and any others of Buster's creations.

I'll keep digging. This is nearly as much fun as digging in the dirt, just no dust or diesel fumes - - - - - and NO busted cables either. And I've now got people in Britain chasing information through me too.

Any dates on the show Deas? around Conexpo time would be great.

Eric Orlemann has told me that Peterson,s archives are about the best around so they should have a lot of info on things right there. Making a good contact will be the key.

Not sure how many quads there were in Alaska but i think Wilder Construction had one up there that was working only a couple years ago. I hope Duane has it restored to full "period correct" status.

Have you contacted Agristruction to see where all there stuff is?

I have been informed by a pretty reliable source that almost all of the Agristruction DD9 parts went on a slow boat to China. Their yard is now pretty much a big empty. BUT, note that I said 'ALMOST'. I keep hearing 'roomas' of strange goings-on in various places on this little lifeboat in space. I guess that all - - - if any - - - will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Who woulda thunkit back when I wuz still goin' ter skool that wunn bloke sittin' infruntuvva little glowin' screen could make corntact with so many great peepul all round the wirld. The mind boggles.

I don't have definite dates for it yet but it would be a pretty safe bet that it will be somewhere in July, probably in the first half, due to the need to have crops ripe for the harvesting side of the show. Have yer evva seen a 30-mule hitch pulling a combine harvester? Man, that is a sight worth seeing. The mule team people are great folks too. They set up a camp pretty much as it would have been in the early part of last century except that most everybody camps in RVs instead of tents and cabins. They even have a mobile kitchen trailer, just on rubber tires instead of wagon wheels.

Better plan ter gitchyer big orange toolbox onna plane, M8. I reckon you'd LOVE it.

Great idea to celebrate Buster's achievements in earthmoving design and engineering at the show. Wasn't it Eileen Grafton at Peterson Tractor who wrote the book on the company's history? She would be a good source of idea's.

Yes I am excited about the "Buster PlayDay". Thanks for the Tip about Peterson. Yes, well get them on board. If everyone can give their leads to Deas, maybe we can track a few toys down, and get them to the show. It would be neat to get some info displays set up to tell the story. Any Ideas Welcome.-glen

After looking at the pictures of some of Peterson's creations I saw a picture of a D4 with a highway digger mounted on it. I ran across on of these machines about two weeks ago at a friends place. He had picked it up to use as a donor for his D4 ag cats. What happened to Agristruction's tandem D9's they used for deep ripping?

If you can get some photos of that D4 and post them here, it would be much appreciated. What would be even better would be that the guy who now has it would change his mind and restore it or let somebody else restore it.

Agristruction's yard has had a severe cleanout and pretty much everything that was there is now on a slow boat to China. I have heard a rumor that one drawbar set escaped but I have been told by a pretty reliable source that the Collins ripper has gone. Pity. It woulda been great to see those shanks sunk in the ground and the two D9's at full bark pulling them.

I have no idea just how many Collins ripper sets were made or if any still exist today. If anybody has any information about existing sets, please let Glen or me know about them - QUICKLY.
