The notched adjusting collar is a seperate piece, not conntected to the hub. The collar pushes against the hub and the hub slides off without damaging the key.

I suppose if you have a reason to remove the bearing hub and seal only, this may be the way to do it, but if the outer seal or bearing are worn out, you really should be pulling the sprocket to check the inner seal and inner bearing. To do this you need a sprocket puller, which is much easier to use and about 110% less dangerous to pull off that outer hub than either of the two methods shown. That jack and chain have been turned unto a grenade about to go off, the jack slipping out would take your head off, enough said I think.

We always just backed the axle nut off a few rounds and left it on the axle so the hub wouldn't fall off on our toes. Then hit the hub a good, solid, flat lick with a sledgehammer. It would jump right off.
