Hi Richard,
I'd have to do the same thing.....rummage through the parts book.
The slick way to do it would be through the Cat NPR (I think that's correct) where a reverse directory can identify the part application....sorry I don't have one of those but if you can snag "Josh" who follows the BB, he has the reference source.

Thanks Old Magnet and thank you josh,
I spent many hours trawling through my parts books with no luck,
Josh, do I have to register with the local Cat dealer to get the parts info, ie, type in the part # get the machine type it fits ?
thanks Richard.

General Gear has a parts interchange area on their website that is helpful.

Richard,
Caterpillar's online information is mostly useless as to what a part goes to, and calling a Cat dealer is usually just about the same, the numerical parts reference I have is a paper "book", printed in the 1960s, about 20k pages of reference info, a dealer item that most all of went directly into the dumpster with the introduction of microfiche, as I understand it the microfiche version has much less information. I think it is not in the best interest of a corporation like Cat to keep information on obsolete parts and machines, and despite their lack of complete information available, they do better than most companies.
