What Grease is best?
I’m trying to find what the medium weight (cup grease) that was used for the water pump shaft/bushing and packing glands on the 2tons and others!
What is available in today’s equivalent grease that is suitable to use for that application?
Mike.

For graphite impregnated water pump packing you need graphite base grease. It is a wast of time to
use anything else. Jon

I see that RSC sells a water pump grease. Might be worth try. Jon

Old RPM grease
I have a can of old Standard Oil RPM water pump grease. I used the stuff inold Herculese engines. It was old stock when I got the half used can from a service station many years ago. They had it for years before that and never used it because all cars by then had sealed pumps. Thus, I have no idea how old it might be.
It has a soapy feel, is of a light color, and has very little tackiness. It reminds me of half-melted parafin. It is designed to not be displaced by water. If you want to check with Standard-Chevron, I could try to lift a number off of the old can. PM me if you want that number. Sorry, the grease isn't for sale.
