Question about 955

I was scoping a junkyard the other day and scored a Carb bowl from a 955 12A. I got to wondering if the unit had an oil clutch, and if so would it fit in a 7U D4 assuming the 7U had the suitable flywheel housing? Not too much left on the old beast, but it also has the hyd cyl's. It is serving as the cornerstone for the remains of an JD excavator. Also scored a few parts from a 212 9T grader if anyone is looking for a few bits. It had a hard life, including a crazy engine conversion complete with hyd-stat type drive of sorts. I don't know very much about the oil clutches, i.e where they are to be found, and interchangability.

The 955 12A was the pioneer of the D4 oil clutch but it is in a different main case part #6H2997. You would have to be in a late D4 s/n 7U29734-up to have interchange ability.

Thanks OM. So does that mean that all 12A's had the oil clutch? I do have a later 7U machine that may have the correct housing. Is there a different casting # that is unique for oil clutch compatible ?

Yes, all the 12A's have oil clutches. Field changeover would be from a
#6H2998 (part number) 7U case assy. I don't have any info on what the casting number would be.
