Default Late 1960s D4D transmission question

    Hey,
New to the site and forum (and dozers in general). Bought an older D4D to do some pond work. Working great today but had some fluid come up out of possibly a transmission vent on left side of tractor directly behind exhaust. Small square plate with what looks like a mushroom sticking up out of it. Seems to be working fine but shut it down in a hurry when I saw it. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Default Hot Oil

    Hey RtMurray,

I am not familiar with the D4-d model, but it sounds like the tranny oil got too hot and boiled out. Does the tractor have a tranny oil temp guage? Check the transmission cooler to see if it is plugged or needs to be blown out. Did somone disconnect the tranny cooler? You need to watch the temp of the tranny and find out why it's getting too hot. What gear were you pushing in? If you work them to hard and the cooler is plugged a little, the oil can get cooked.-glen

It sounds to me that you are referring to the hydraulic tank filler cap, it's on the top of the hood on the left side, maybe check it for tightness.
