    Default Cat D4 40A and 7U

Good morning to all. Can someone tell me if the 40 A's and the 7U's used the same engines? Thanks for your help!

The 40A uses the D330 engine a completely new & different engine than the D315 used in the D4 7U and about all the same is the bore & stroke of the two.

Did the D330 prove to be a better engine and make the 40A a better tractor?

Definitely not, the D330 and D333 were not great engines. Seems like the most common problem was spun bearings along with cracked heads. No where near as reliable at the D315 & D318.

OM, you hit the nail on the head with the D330 & D333 engines. We had so much head problems esp. with the D330 in 955 loaders coming into the dealer.
