Makes you think, doesn't it.......if whenever these guys show up with their camera the machine suddenly breaks in half/catches on fire/gets stuck it must be some kind of supernatural jinx at work.....I hope Bill LaHart is down in the southern hemisphere because he certainly seems to be a real master of disaster

Nick, yes the driver got out ok, but they took him off to hospital with a few cuts 'n bruises. The bridge is down at Aveton Gifford [spelt Jifford by us] which also has a tidal road just to the west of this.......... I was working for Avon Bridge Machinery back then and we quite often used to get called out to pull cars out that tried to get through the water when the tide was coming in.

    Graham,

Yes, I see he had 2 in the Resale Weekly, at over 100k a piece!

No luck yet with a crawler.....ever the optimist, though.

    Have a good Christmas, Folks.

    ciao

Thumbs up RE Luke Furse trucks

    Hi Richard,

Luke had a lot of work down on the A30 and went a bit crazy buying a lot of trucks, ended up with six A25's then not long after I left McAlpines decided to have a major league thin out!! Some of the drivers ended up working 2 day weeks but they still stayed with em !! CRAZY.

Luke will always have work though that's why they all call him "Lucky Luke"

    Nick.

There are a few members on the board from Devon, have not heard from Catsilver for a while. Will be visiting my mate in Ashburton in the new year,he is still looking for a BTD6 dozer.Any one down there heard of a chap called Derek Pester? I worked for him years ago.Just wondered if you Devonians know of him.I worked for Beacon Plant hire and Exeter tractors,

    Hi Martyn,

I have read many of your comments on the website in the past when I have visited as a guest, all extemely interesting, don't really know why it took me so long to join up!!

I don't know too much about the local plant people although I have lived in Devon for the last ten years I have not worked for many of them, most of the bosses in the West Country are quite simply exploiting the workforce but I guess all the time people will work for it nothing will ever change!!

Heres a picture of a machine owned by a chap I worked for who is from Callington on a Job in the town I live in called Okehampton. Nice tidy machine but we just couldn't agree a decent rate.

As time goes by things can only get better as old attitudes die off, I hope!!

    Default Disaster

D4Jim....Thats a sorry mess. Our REA got it a few years ago. We lucked out with 1.5 to 2.2 inches of rain. People are smiling again. Merry Christmas to everyone. Darrol
