Hey that's really neat to have a telescoping crane to coax a static machine up onto a trailer without fuss and breaking a sweat.

    Default DW10 rescue.

    O. K. I am finally here. We started an upgrade to our server at work on Friday at noon that was supposed to be finished by 5:00 pm. We worked on it most of the day Saturday, took Sunday and Monday off for Christmas, and have been back working on it all day today. We finally got it working now and are almost done with our upgrade. While the server was down, I didn't have email and couldn't get to the board. I think I am having withdrawal.

Cable Cat has given the cast of characters. My brother-in-law Ernie Hull was working the camera. He did pretty well for never having taken pictures for amination before.

You all may recall Mr. Phillips posting these three DW10s on here. I was able to make a deal with him and Mr. Hearn to buy all three. Cable Cat was able to use one to keep his and a friends running. Another tractor unit has been spoken for by a friend in Palmdale. I am going to keep a tractor and scraper unit that are in running condition. I have the engine from Cable Cat's machine and will probably offer some parts off of it on here as soon as I get it home. It has sat exposed to the weather without heads for at least twenty years, and I can see where it threw they number four rod and bent the side plate on the engine. I think that the accessories are still in pretty good shape, though and lots of good castings are there, too.

You can see from the animation that it took several pulls to get the tractor loaded on Cable Cat's trailer. We had removed the engine to lighten the load, but it was all that Mr. Hearn's crane could do to pull it up the ramps.

We first tried hooking the line to the front bumper. It pulled O. K. until it got to a bump half way up the ramps. We stopped there and tried a few other things, but couldn't get over the bump, so we put on the sheave to double the line.

With the line doubled, we almost made it over the bump, but not quite, so we tried a hook above the rear axle to get a little lift, too. That finally did the trick and we were able to get it loaded easily then.

By the way, as Cable Cat said, Mr. Phillips belongs to the dog, but I think he was trying to adopt Cable Cat. He must have gotten into Cable's pickup about five times to go for a ride. He really didn't want to miss out!

Cable Cat had to climb 2,500 feet to get out of the valley that the tractor was in, then 2,500 fee down the other side. Then he had to haul it from Bakersfield, California half way across the country to Montana and its new home.

It was really nice meeting Cable Cat and visiting for an afternoon. I still haven't gotten the other two units to my house yet, because I am having trouble finding a low bed to haul them on.

I hope to solve that problem within the month, though. I am sure that Mr. Hearn and Mr. Phillips will be glad to see them gone, and I can't wait to get them home and play with them.

Thank you to Swishy for animating our pictures. I hope that you all enjoyed them.

    Pete.

Default DW 10, found - need help

    Hello Garlic Pete,

A lady at the Ohio show gave me some of your garlic - thank you!
I came across a DW 10 with a rounded / vee'd grill and it says DW 10 on the side of the grill.
    Are parts avail?
What is the top speed of these machines?
    Any suggestions?

Marty, where in Chicago are you located? The "Lady" with the garlic is Pete's mom. What a treat to get to meet and spend the weekend with her.

Greetings, The Cat DW10 I found has full front fenders. Seems complete except for the headlights.
Is this a pre WW2 model with the full fenders?

    Default Serial #'s

    Hey Apprentice,

Get the serial number off of the machine, then post it asking how old it is. People have books that will show what year it is, but they need the serial number. Also take some pictures and post them.-glen
