    Default Steering valve

Posting for a friend. 10K series D6. Left steering valve keeps sticking, releasing left steering clutch. New oil, new filters, new trans pump. Valves look good except for minor scoring. Tried switching valves yesterday with the ones from a parts machine and got the same results. Getting very frustrated, especially now that there is work for it! Any ideas?

Are you sure that is the right diagnostics?
Seems more like worn serrations on driving and driven steering clutch drums causing plates to hang up.

Put a gauge on a hose to the test point in the elbow which feeds the clutch, if there is no pressure when the clutch slips, the fault is not the valve.

There is pressure past the valve when the clutch releases. It will just lose the left side while driving.

If swapping the control valve did not change the results the problem is not likely in the valve. Has the control linkage been properly adjusted?

The rest of the story comes out. Unit had catastrophic failure and was left with trash in the system.
