    Been trying to sneak some time in on the D2 here and there. Was able to get the new bottom in the tank.

    Got some more parts sandblasted. I have multiples of some parts to choose from. Track frames need a little work but a good start

    Looking good Gary. Are you going to refurbish the pivot shaft and bushings? If you do, can you let me know some specs such as the bushing material, size, etc. I have to do mine soon.

    I haven't got that far yet but from memory when I measured my pivot shaft it didn't have much wear. I also have different track frames and an extra shaft so I have some options. I know you're an as new kinda guy but if I can take off 30 or 40 years of wear I'll be happy.
    I remember reading somewhere about someone was using some kind of composite for new bushings . Maybe teflon or something similar?

    I've replaced so much stuff on this unit now I can't really leave any stones unturned. But the finish line is in sight. It's just the undercarriage now.

    General gear came through with some goodies. I think I'm down to gaskets and a lot of elbow grease but really excited to get working on my little tractor

    Checked with western states cat and seals for d2 rollers are available for about twenty dollars a piece so I'm thinking new seals are in order

    Default track welding

    I got set up with a little table to try to weld up my rails. Just some stuff from the treasures pile, so nothing special and will go back in the treasure pile when done. The shop hoist seems to handle the tracks ok so far. After talking to a couple of welder type guys and a friend with experience welding tracks I'm going to use the 70 series wire which equals to 7018 stick rod. This is basically a working hobby machine so I'm confident that this will out last me.

    I will say track welding isn't for the fainthearted, but I'm trying to stumble through it. It seems like it would be pretty straightforward but not really. My metal fabricator friend came and welded 1 chain link in about 5 minutes and showed me how bad I was doing. Pretty humbling to see what a professional can do in about 5 minutes compared to 5 hours of my time. But on the bright side the metal guy and a friend who has done track welding say my work is good enough and it will all smooth out quickly once running.
