La County most likely still has those animals, I saw one of them on the day fire in 06, still set up he same with a swamper seat and drop down curtians, no thanks, not with todays tractors and enviromental cabs out there.
Yes, but that looks like a thrill that a roller coaster cant give you. I have always wanted to do fire dozing but never had the time in the seat that one would need to get certified.
Karl
Even out east the fire dozers do not have enclosed cabs.
I suspect that the heat would blow out the glass and burn up the window seals. Probably tough on everything.. too much heat..
I also suspect that if they were to get a water drop near by that would be another way the glass would/could get blow out.
Another reason may be safety. insulated environmental cab. operator may get a bit too brazen for his/her own good. Open cab, when he/she gets hot they would know to back off some. They can't save every stick of wood.
Cheers

Stuck Left Clutch, Dang
Yeah the rubbers can melt in the cabs and the glass cook a bit, but when you get in a bad spot, your better off with the cab than not, the guys with the open cabs get in the enviromental cabs when the fire hits the fan.
Actually I've seen pictures of modern D8Rs with glassed cab.
Is the D8 the biggest tractor in fire fighting service? Saying that I guess, that if necessary, you would call contractors with other/bigger equipment to help.
