    Default D2 5U water pump?

Is the water pump the same on a 5U series D2 as it is on a 3J/5J? I dont have a parts manual for my brothers late series 5U and the water pump has been apart in a box for years. There is a bunch of new parts still in box,s but I dont want to try to put it together without the correct diagram. I have the J series books. It is a real nice 5 roller, tailseat, long chassis tractor, but not much good sitting there. Thanks ahead of time. Grant.

    They have totally different engines.
    D-4 7U-43159 with 4S dozer and Cat 40 scraper, D-7 3T-1179 with Cat 7S hydraulic dozer, D-7 17A 13,944, D-8 14A-1160 with Cat 8S cable dozer, Cat 12-99E-4433 Grader. All runners and users.

I will re-phrase the question. Would the manual for the U series D2 (water pump) cover the very last of that series, which I think had a few changes. This is D2 5U ser 18314. Thanks. Grant

    Default Servicemen's Reference Book

    Hi Grant,
there is a Servicemen's Reference Book (SRB) for the D311 Engine only and has the different attachment repair data as for when it is used in the D2, No 112 Motor Grader, D311 Industrial, Marine and Electric Set applications.
This SRB has the details of the water pump overhaul.

My D311 SRB is Form No 30524-2. Dated 05-1958. The higher the (-2) iteration number is, the later the data is for that unit.

The D2 SRB is a separate book for just the D2 machine.

My D2 SRB is Form No 30441, Dated 07-1953. And covers the D2 machine only from the flywheel clutch, transmission and so forth of the D2 machine only--no D311 engine details in this SRB except for the removal procedure.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Eddie B.

At most there might be some changes in part numbers of some of those components, and very slight possibility of some different dimensions, but all the water pumps of the D311 D315 D318 D311h D320 D330 and D333 are all arranged the same, so I'm pretty sure you could look at a drawing of any of them and build one if you have all the parts.

Sorry but I don't have a parts book to post a drawing for you. If you don't have something that will work, come back here and ask so someone can get you one to refer to.

If you like, ship it to me and I will build it and ship it back. I've done several for people on here. One was a box of parts like you have. Other than the uncertainty of having all/correct parts in the box, its easier to do one that's already disassembled.

ccjersey, thank you for the offer. I discovered that a friend of mine has the diagram for the U series water pump , so we will see about getting it back together soon. The Cat has sat for 8 or 10 years so hopefully it will be happy to purr again. Thanks to all, Grant.
