Default Pull Start No. 6 shovel ?

I need some advice before I attempt to pull start a No. 6 shovel. I believe the motor is stuck and would like to try and jar it loose by pulling it. It has an oil clutch. My question or concern is will I be able to pull it like you can with a regular clutch ? Thanking anyone in advance for their help . Ed

    Default Oil Clutch

There is no difference between an oil clutch and dry one except the oil in it and the parts are different to make up for the use in oil and a couple other items so you,ll have no problem.I think if it,s stuck I,d look into why a little more before pulling it.You could try to bar it over if you can get to a place like the pump drive in the front or the flywheel teeth. There should be a small plate on the right of the bell housing in the front side of it so remove it and usually the timing pointer is in there so maybe you could bar it a little from there but be careful of the pointer. If it is stuck you always could take the spray nozzles out and pour some fuel oil or kero. on top the pistons to help loosen them but would take a little time for it to work.Maybe someone has something better to use than the fuel oil or kero.

I have heard of using DMSO but have never tried it myself for machinery. I do know that it will go into your skin and you can taste it and it works to loosen stiff old joints and hands.

Be sure your valve are not stuck before you try pulling it or you may have bent pushrods and broken rocker arms. Just go along tapping the valves with a composit hammer or brass hammer. They should drepress and return to their original postion.

    Hope you get it going.
