Tractor identification

My friend Phil and I have been given an old Cat? My thought based on the minuscule amount of knowledge on early tractors is, that is is a model 60. Where would we find the identification plate. The original idea was to scrap it. It is missing the tracks, carburator, starter, and what appears to have been a winch on the back.

[Old Cats]

Cat Sixties were four cylinder gas engines with the jugs cast individually. Serial number is on the seat and on the left side if the engine and on the right front of the frame near the radiator. I am not aware of any starter other than the holes in the flywheel for a starting bar. If the tractor has the radiator it should have sixty cast in the side plates. Hope this helps.

We are trying to decide wheather to sell as is, part out, or restore.

A pic would be of great assistance. All the P/No's you have quoted, are either "discontinued" (with no further additional info) or do not appear at on my Numerical Parts Reference .. thus indicating a tractor around the mid 1930's or a little later.

The four speed transmission is the clue. AFAIK, there were no Sixtys with 4-speed transmission, they were 3-speed only. The Sixty did not have a starter, it was bar start on the flywheel.
The first Cat transmission with more than 3 speeds appeared on the Seventy in 1933, which was fitted with a 6-speed transmission. The first 4-speed transmissions appeared about 1934, on the Thirty Five, Forty, and Fifty. The Sixty Five had a 3-speed transmission.

If the tractor has no tracks, and many missing accessories, the cost of restoration would be more than most people would care to outlay. It sounds like you have a parts tractor only.

I traced through the NPR and the cylinders trace to be a Gas 50 towards the end of production probably after 5a1091 maybe there were many breaks in the gas 50 lineage and many part number changes. does the gear shift have a selector box as this can narrow down the age, and serial # range. that is a difficult tractor to restore if it is missing a lot of parts, but if it is later early rd-7 parts will work on the transmisson and undercarriage but pics would explain more of what you have. hope this helped.
