Make sure the pony clutch is in the released position and if it still turns the diesel then something is hanging up in the clutch so you,ll have to check deeper into why.Make sure the clutch compartment has oil in it and if not it must be seized up in there.
If it still tried to turn the main, drain the oil in the clutch and dump in some diesel. Try it again a few times, then drain the diesel and refill with automatic transmission fluid. If it still drags the main, readjust the clutch as it might be too tight. All the clutches on my critters "snap" in with very little effort.
I had the same problem [ seems to be common ] I adjusting my clutch using the manual. Try pushing the lever to the rear of the tractor [clutch brake]. This does take two people though if your trying to start the pony.

It sounds like the abendix is seized. Is the lever for engaging the pup to diesel moving freely or is it pulled intoward the seat.
Actually his statement is vague?? Could he have engaged the bendix and be relying on the Pony Motor clutch to be the disengagement point? I know on mine it will drag big time if the oil is too heavy which in effect is rolling the Main over when you pull the rope? I believe the problem is in the pony clutch.
On my D2 there is two levers clutch and abendix engagement. If the abendix is disengaged the clutch will not be able to drive the diesel flywheel .
