Default Need Bearings for a CAT Ten

As I had sorted through all the pieces of the Ten project that I hauled home, sorting and assembling as I go. I have reached the point of assembling the Front Idler "wheel". I have a good shaft and bearing/bushing in the left Idler. But the shaft and bearing/bushings are shot in the one I am using on the right side! I welded up and turned the shaft back to spec but am in need of bearings or bushings.
Are these still available either through CAT or aftermarket?
If not does anyone have a good used set?
Also do these just press in and push out?
    Thanks,
    drujinin

Those bushing on the ten are normally worn out, and I am not aware of anyone making aftermarket ones. Your best bet it to have some made up at a machine shop. I have yet to do this myself, however I think I will be doing it shortly.

Yes the bushing, which should in the idler are pressed in. Normally, you can get them out with a hammer and chisel (if they are trashed) or you can use a large socket, just a tade smaller than the ID of the idler to hit with a hammer. Some come out easier than others.

Check this out-pages 8-9 start showing which sizes they have in stock. May be a modern day alternative to replace the orginal brass bushing?

Does anyone have the exact measurements for those brass bearings in the front idlers?

I have had customers in the past send me the worn out bronze shells of their idlers and I have bored them out and rebushed to std. bore with a common flanged bushing available at bearing suppliers. There is not much wall thickness to work with but if the shell is not too egged out it can be done. I've also taken the bearings out and bored them a little oversize and made new oversized shafts in the case of the Ten they would come out to be 1.25''. I think this is easier since most of the time the shafts have two grooves worn through the case hardening. Sometimes the 4 castings that slide on the track frames are egged out and the sliding surface worn too then they will need bored oversize surfaced in the mill and fitted with the oversized shaft. Another thing to look at is the track frame themselves,Since everything else is worn out and rusty the ends of the track frames are probably trashed also. Then they will need replaced so all the idler parts line up correctly.

    Default I was actually

snoozing after Easter Brunch and for some reason, I bombshelled on the idea of; if I can't bore/drill them without removing them because of not a big enough mill/drill. Then take a piece of steel the inner dimension, slip it in there and pull it out. You know like you would remove a cylinder sleeve. Then put the bushing in the lathe and bore the egg shape out and put in an insert.
When it seems like you are working 24/7, things get out of focus then you just need to STOP and recharge!

Mike, I mentioned it to Bob about 2 weeks ago when he was in the loader, he told me the last 4 digits which I though he said was 8530? But like a dummy without a piece of paper. My memory lasted about the distance to the truck.
I have some stuff to drop off and will see him soon.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Default Still Need Bushings

I've been working on everything else but not the front idler. The other day I was thinking of taking it apart when I again got side tracked on the Honey-Do list!
Later I ran across a web-link for a brass bushing supplier which lists lots of the correct ID bushings with various OD's.
Does anyone have one apart that they can measure to get an OD on the bushing or someone have a paper with the dimensions on it?
Doing another marathon hours at work project and don't have much home time right now.
    Thanks!

I can't find my drawing for the idler but the roller bushings are 2.505'' OD X 1-3/4''long+.189''long x 1.496''od shoulder and a bore of 1.194'' ID.
If you need your idlers redone by rebushing as described in a previous post, send them to me and I can repair them. I could also make you new standard or oversized shafts and re machine the adjuster slides.

    Default Great!

I'll keep that in mind that you can do them if necessary!
I'll keep plugging away at the other parts of this project while I wait for someone to post the info I need. If it comes down to that holding me back I'll let you know.
    Thanks, Jeff
