    Default Jenny @ ACMOC

    Hi Mr. Williams,

I sent you a private email. Please let me know if you don' receive it. As long as someone is a paid member, or places their membership with their order, they can get the Members discount by selecting "YES" from the pull-down menu (Under the choking hazard warning in the description) for the R2 scale model.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

"Choking hazard warning"?? .. .. surely, you don't mean to tell me? .. that some ACMOC members have been known to take their scale models to bed, and actually suck on them?? .. .. this Cat-fever is a worse disease than I imagined ..

I think the "choking hazard" only applys when starting the pony motor. The hazard is too much fuel.

Question Anyone know why the new R2 is so expensive??

The original D2, which they made quite a few variations of, was 60=75 dollars when released? Now this one is more than twice that? Is it because they cannot make many variations of itl??? Just curious as it is the first piece SpecCast has made that retailed for over 150 dollars, other than some monster pieces???

dctex99, perhaps I can offer an answer for you. The original D2 scale model was offered as a joint venture between ACMOC and The Toy Farmer, with special dispensation by Caterpillar Inc. While I was not on the ACMOC board of directors at the time, and so don't know everything about it, I do have the info on the D2 Orchard model, which may be close to the figures of the original D2 Toy Farmer model. The D2 orchard was introduced in June 2004 with a pre-sale price to ACMOC members of $60 eaach, with a regular price of $75 each. After the D2 Toy Farmer model was on the market, the club took the same tooling, modified it, and ultimately produced I think 5 models of the D2. What is currently being offered is the entire set of 5 models in one package. The case lot sale price for the sets of 5 should appear far more reasonable than what you originally thought. It will be the last chance for folks to purchase them, and when they are gone, the values should start to increase. They were manufactured by SpecCast. GWH

Question Actually, it does not answer my question at all???

Do you mean that they are going to do only ONE version of the R2, hence the price being twice as much...or are you implying that prices have doubled since the D2's were done??? The first D2 model done for the Toy Farmer was sold retail to subscribers for $48.50 plus freight. I do know that CAT charges an outlandish sum for licensing; but would still not more than double the price? Thanks for any info you can fiind out; as it will have no where near the detail of the First Gear Models that sell for $250. Norscot has done a great job with the 20 & 22, with the same detail as SpecCast. They, however, sell retail for 60-65$. My question DID NOT pertain to models as an investment, but rather the initial cost; so more could afford them. Originally someone had said that ACMOC would do SOME models with First Gear which be more expensive, and also continue a "less than $100" price model that SpecCast or Norscot would be doing;;;that is the main reason I was so surprised when the R2 was $159...
