Dave Smith, one of the founders of ACMOC, and its first corporate secretary, died. Here is the text of an e-mail, dated Sunday, August 23, 2009, from John Hahn concerning this event:

To ALL: I received a call this afternoon of Dave's passing last evening. I will visit with Joann Smith and get any details and get back to you. The memorial service will be Wednesday. Dave and family will be in our prayers. John & Kathie.

A more recent e-mail from John Hahn:

I just visited with Joann Smith. The service will 10:30 on Wed. at St. Luke's Church in Woodburn Ore. Dave requested a quite, brief service , a dinner and a Family only interment. Any Memorials may be sent to:

    Antique Caterpillar Machinery Museum,
    P O Box 3377,
    Portland Or. 97208.

Dave was one of the founders of ACMOC. The Restoration and preservation of Caterpillar Machinery was Dave's passion. He put his whole heart into anything that he did. The ACMM was his dream. He donated his Caterpillar library and many tools to the museum. He was truly a great man. It was my honor to have known him. JOHN Hahn

    Default Dave Smith

I had met Dave Smith years ago at some club shows and spoke with him briefly at times over the past several years. In 2006 right after the big Brooks show I expressed my interest in Dave's collection and he invited me over to his home to show me his collection of machines, models, and literature. What a real treat! Dave was definitely a CLASS ACT and remains an inspiration to myself and I am sure many others, he will be greatly missed. To Dave and the members of his family you are in our thoughts.

Prays go out over the pond, It was only a couple of months ago Snr Catman spoke to Dave about some cat help. Snr CM is a trustee of our local Chapel, and our vicar is from CA.. there will be a service this Sunday at chapel and the Smith Family will be in the prayers.

I would like to ask if Cat Iron can send an extra bunch of flowers?, on my Behalf (Bob just add them to my slate).

Please let Joanne Smith know that the lose of Dave is felt over this side (UK).

    God Bless

In the early days of ACMOC he worked tirelessly to establish the club and paid the bills from his own pocket. We all have a lot to be grateful to him for. A true gentleman, who made time for everyone.
