    Default 5u hydraulic pump question

Hello all, I have a hydraulic pump off a 1952 5u tractor. It has a detent for float and for down controls. I was wondering if its supposed to have the detent for power down or not. And if so is there anyway to get rid of the function. Thanks for any input.

The detent is supposed to be between "down" and "float". Not really any difference between down and power down that I know of, so no place for a detent there. When you are not past the detent into "float", the valve should return to the "hold" position when the lever is released.

Have you checked control linkage for binding and lubricated it well?

Maybe some of the track loaders had a special valve which used a kick-out linkage or hydraulic circuit like the wheel loaders had a little later on.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time

From the neutral position of the lever I can push it foward to the first detent, it locks in and the blade goes power down, then foward to another detent which is float. I dont see anything binding anywhere. All the linkage has been off. Maybe something in the pump itself. thanks again

Yes, check the linkage inside the tank. If the control lever shaft drops down the normal down function will pick up the detent function. Requires shimming of the control lever shaft to get it back up to it's proper operating range.....will wreck the detent lever mechanism if left uncorrected. There is only one detent (float) on the #44 pump.

    Forgot to add:
Grab hold of the control lever at the #44 unit and pull it up and down to see how much vertical play there is.
