I made a compressor based on the pictures from drujinin. I also appreciate the post from bruce oz. All went well, the clutch is installed but I need to reline the brake band. The adjuster is banged up and I would like to take off all the peices to fix that adjuster bolt as well as reline the band at the same time. I tool off the small rectangle keeper plate that holds a brake pivot shaft. How does the shaft come out? I assume it should just push out but of course lots of pounding on the opposite end produced no movement. Am I missing something or is it just tight?
One of mine came out fairly easy, but the other was stuck tight. I heated the casting around it. Smashed a few fingers banging on it. Gave up, Kroiled it, went home till the following weekend. Went out there and drove it right out! Go Figure!
Unless someone corrects me, that shaft needs to be driven from the inside out, based on the fact that the keeper end is rusty from being exposed to the elements.
I have a small portable torch and rosebud but I was getting nowhere even with a lot of heat. I eventially got out my old gasoline blowtorch, set it on a block at the right height and opened the valve to high. It burned through one tank of gasoline and part of another before everything was hot enough for the pin to move. Took 3 punches and a large sledge hammer but it did eventially come out.
