seeing your post and RD6's mention of oregon made me think. i know of a
rear tool bar that two funny old, very old brothers have in portland oregon.
they told me to sell it for them five months ago. they do not like outsiders
so i never really gave it much consideration. they said they wanted 1500
for the thing. i seen it, not sure what i was looking at but it was there in a
pile. they may take less? they are funny, if you are interested i can look into
it further. not sure how this would work. they only let certain people on the
    place.

The type of ripper assembly you have referred to is difficult to come by. In my opinion, if you can find one, you have struck gold. Wes Crandall bought his from me some years ago.

The unit you are probably looking for was original equipment on the HT4 loader tractor, so if you were to check with various dead tractor heavens around the country, the HT4 is what you need to zero in on.

I would encourage you to pursue your search, as the addition of the ripper assembly to a D47U with a dozer will put you in a position to do almost any type of work. I wouldn't try to do any D47U dozer work without one.

Can this ripper be modified to work behind a D4N Winch?

No, the HT4 ripper uses the same mounting bolts that mount the winch.
