Default URGENT ATTENTION Caterpillar Gas 40 / R5 Inlet Manifold

I have collected today my 1st off sample of the Inlet Manifold for a Cat Gas 40, I have invested many $1000's of Dollars into this project, to reproduce the same spec of casting including detail into this Cat Item , I have spent more dollars than I even payed for the whole machine.

I would like to thank those Cat Guys who have actually sent me Payment along the way, to secure a Machined up Reproduction of the Inlet Manifold, as a Good Will Jesture for those who have sent Payment, I am going to Supply the Inlet Manifold with Stainless 316 Studs, Stainless 316 Spring Washers, and Long Style Brass Exhaust Nuts Thanks for your Support

Due to the Cost of Pattern Setting and Core Moulding Time, This is a One Time Deal I am going to modify some of the core box tooling to make the Cat 30 Inlet and use the same core boxes for the HeatBox on 15/20/30/35/40/R5.

If anyone would like a Cat 35/40/R5 Inlet Manifold, Please let me know by email or PM as a Matter of Urgency I am only taking orders over the next 5 days.

nice looking casting, it is hard to find a good pattern maker, after all a casting is only as good as the pattern.

CMan, once again, my hat is off to you. Your attention to detail and moreso, your commitment to the restoration process is amazing. Thanks for keeping those old gas Cats operating.

    Catman,
Congratulations for putting so much time, effort and hard earned cash into producing such a good reproduction, its probably better than the original!

B4D2, this is only the 1st off casting after close inspection, we are going to be making some minor Detail Modifications to the Mould Tooling Corner Fillets and Rad Adjustments along with flash line areas , this 1st off Prototype is going on my Shelf marked as 1st sample only ,

Chriscokid, you are very correct the pattern makes the final Product,, I have managed to find some good Pattern Makers, but then my next problem was actually finding a Foundry who could set up with the old green sand, and have the mould setting skills, my local fountry has cast strange parts for me in the past, They said they could cast the extension tube for cat 30. They made 6 different types of vents in each mould, and scrapped all 6 due to gassing problems. I ended up touring the foundry within a 200 mile radius, I have found a guy who can do it,

Out of Interest, what did CAT use as a paint on the inlets / exhast manifolds & Heatboxes???

    Catman, two questions arise.

First, what price have you placed on the machined Intake Manifold that fits a gas 40?

Second, you say you are going to modify the mould to fabricate heat boxes for a variety of machines, including the Fifteen, the Twenty, the Thirty, the Thirty-Five, the Forty, and the R5. I am somewhat confused, since the heat boxes on the various styles are not all alike. Do you intend that the final product(s) will look like the original heat boxes for those various models?

    Thanks for your reply.

GWH, cost of the machined up Inlet for gas 40 is $740.00, after this run, I am going to modify the tooling for the R5 inlet, and then modify again for the gas 35, The heatboxes are different, I am modifying the tooling to reproduce the correct heatbox per model. There is a lot of Core Box work, and Sand Boxes on the Inlet, I Intent to save money making the Heatbox, by using the same outer boxes from the inlet Casting, if you get my drift.

Default LAST CALL ON GAS 35/40 Inlet Manifolds

This is the Last Call .

I am on my way with the Casting Process of the Gas 35/40 Inlet Manifolds, I am getting ready to cast the R5 Inlet Manifold which Requires Different Mould Patterns, I am Modifing my Gas 35/40 Tooling to Re-Master the R5 Inlet (THE LARGER PORTED INLET INTERNAL PORTING ETC. WITH STUDS FOR CARB ETC) .

So Last Call for Inlets for the Gas 35/40. Please email b.heal@ntlworld.com, as my PM box is full

I am Looking at Remaking the Heatbox for the Gas 35/ 40/ R5, I have enough heatboxes for my own projects, but If there is enough cat guys in need of any heatboxes ??, I am prepared to help my fellow cat friends and reproduce the heatboxes with either just the heatbox, or the outer flanges, heat control assy, or just the steel flap I have actually made a Press Tool for the Heat Flap, as per cat Spec about 4 years ago for my own cat collection.

My machining time on the compoents is my own spare time, I am only looking to help recover my External Expensives of the Pattern / Casting Costs, therfore the more we cast the cheaper the overal Cost I might as well Machine a 10 off casting setup as a 4 off setup,, its my Setting Up Time which is the most amount of time,, if I can Help a Fellow Cat Guy Out, Then my time is for the Cause.. of the ACMOC.
