Default Cat 30 steering clutches: relining?

Got the last of the steering clutches apart this morning. Steering clutch pads on both sides are really really low. Good news is that the right hand big bearing looks good - I'll probably only have to replace the one set on the left.

Not looking forward to getting these plates relined, considering how much it cost to get the main clutches done. 16 plates with linings on each side.

Going to call our local dealer tomorrow and ask if they still have these parts (all 16 of them!). Not holding my breath on that one!

Anyone have success relining these themselves? I can probably get the material and rivets from McMaster-Carr....

It's been 15-16 years since I went thru my Best 30 but I was working in an auto machine shop back then. I believe I used a standard 12" chevy clutch lining and drilled/ rivited them to the original plates. Check the size could be smaller. It's worked like a dream since then. I also built new metal bands and lined them with bulk brake band material for the turning brakes.
I sure do miss that machine shop

    Ouch! Priced the material at McMaster-Carr. $175 for a 1/8" x 30" x 30" sheet! I'm assuming this is a low-friction application.
