A fellow in my town has a #2 Russell grader, what size machine would pull that looks to big for a Cat Ten but I though I would get it and paint it up anyway. In good shape needs some new rubber. Any help would be great![]()

Jason is it a #2 Hiway patrol? If so a ten would pull it but a little more power would't hurt. I have a #2 Hiway patrol on steel I have in the shop close to painting it. Jason
Fellas - Here's the scan for power recommendations for Russell pull graders, from the "Dotted Line", dated April 25, 1929 ..
The Fifteen is the recommended tractor, for the Russell Standard #2 .. but one larger size tractor can be used, where working conditions are not severe.

I do not think it said hiway in it but I looked quick do you have a pic of yours to post. I might have to take a pic.
He also has a big fifteen that has been sitting outside for years it is rough but the tracks have the steel blocks were the rubber was. The fifteen was given to him years ago he uses it for a mailbox. The grader might have been pulled with that 15. I will have to ask him if the same fellow gave the grader to him too not sure
I'll check on the pic but it should have a model/s/n tag on the right side standing on the platform in front of the right lift wheel.
Jason here are some pics of my russell #2 Hi-way patrol

That is a nice grader. Looks in very good shape. Were did you pick that up?![]()
I was surprised to have even found a pull grader near me, graders and crawlers you just don't find.
The fellow that has the grader also has a big fifteen with the grousers that would have had rubber pads on them when the machine was new.
I have two more pull type graders a cat no 4 hi way patrol and an adams road grader. That russell I purchased off of ebay and it came from Erie,Pa. It is ready to paint if I can get my painter in gear!!! Jason
The Hi-Way Patrol was originally called the Hi-Way Patrol "6-foot" .. but it was available with a 6' or an 8' moldboard. I guess if you ordered an 8' moldboard, it wouldn't be described as a 6' any more ..
Here's a scan from the 1923 catalog. Note, how there were two styles of seat spring, and both are shown in the pics.
It appears that the straight spring was the 1922 model, and the "new" curved spring, was the latest 1923 models equivalent, of a Bostrom seat ..
