Default Highway yellow to new Cat yellow

Does anyone recall when that change occurred? Thanks.

I'm fairly sure it was around the late 1980's, but i'd need to check tonight in my Cat library to confirm.

There was a change to the yellow in the late 1970's to a darker mustard shade of yellow. The present yellow is a lighter version of that. That must have changed in the 1980's

Thanks. I thought there was a color in between highway yellow and the new honey yellow.

We have one machine that is that odd color. More like a mud yellow.

not 100 % on the date, without checking old data , but my Lilly Industries Paint Supplier has 3 or more? Yellows for Cat Inc, I can Remember they was 3 for certain..

1, The Old Cat Yellow 1930's. Refered to as "School Bus Yellow" highway yella
2, The Modern Cat Yellow. mud yella
3, And Agri Cat Yellow. -

But to get the right paint spec you need proper Cat Inc Spec Paint, they have the Copyright and lience on the Shade. The Home page under Achieves has the spec on paint and price I think,

I might be wrong I didnt take too much notice of agri yella, I wanted 1930's spec yella, but I think the agir colour was a little orangy. I dont know of its use, maybe the CAT Road Equipment??

I'm pretty certain that they changed from Hiway yellow to new Cat yellow in 1979 (I had this conversation with someone today).

    Default Cat yellow

There is a 4/6/1979 Service Mag announcing the change from "Hiway yellow" to "Caterpillar yellow" mainly due to OH & S levels of lead in the paint and the exposure of employees to it.

But some are saying there has been another change again in the 80,s sometime and that is what we have today?

    Default Cat paint

Just done a bit more searching and there is a 11/6/1984 Service mag that advises Caterpillar now uses a higher gloss paint on its products and at the time was not available through dealers but through Moline or Pittsburgh paints.

The more you dig the more you find!
