Default Caterpillar Museum Visitor Display centre in Peoria

After reading of the display success in Peoria from last October it got me to wondering what is the status of the visitor/display centre that was to be built and feature ACMOC members machines within the complex?

The City of East Peoria continues to devote efforts to securing the infrastructure capital dollars promised by the State of Illinois to get the roads and other need infrastructure in place. They have been meeting with legislatures and are optimistic that they will have those dollars by this construction season. It is thought that the legislature will issue a bond for 500 million dollars. This bond will not be enough to cover all the promises the Illinois legislature has made, but it would allow for dollars to be distributed as a first phase to get projects started.
Remember, the Heritage Center is part of a much larger downtown project in the city of East Peoria. Voters passed a referendum last year to build a new library that will share a Civic Plaza with the proposed Heritage Center and proposed City Hall. While the City has no current funding source for the $2.5 million needed to build the Plaza, which will house shared public service areas (restrooms, etc) for all 3 facilities, it has made a commitment to moving forward with the architectural plans.
The City remains devoted to all parts of the project, including the Heritage Center. The appropriate funding being released will be the determining factor.

Funny you should ask Terry - Caterpillar announced last night that if the County doesn't allow the project to move forward by Feb 12 that they will pull out of it entirely. There are years of history behind the politics that are happening and I only hope the County does what's right.

I know the county was a pain in the side of another project there and I think the people finally gave up. The county was all for it until one person started making noise, then it all ended.
