    Default 955 12A Traxcavator Progress

    955 12A Traxcavator Progress

Today I reassembled the pony motor carburetor & related items. All fresh & clean! If you look close at the one picture you will see a drain valve for the pony motor float bowl. I did this modification on my D2 and it worked OK. Eventually I’ll get a sediment bowl – but for now I have an in-line filter. I got it all finished as the sun was going down. So, I didn’t put gas in it yet – nor try to start it. If you look closely at the other picture you will see a 12 volt automobile coil laying there (not remounted yet). The prior owner has this device hooked into the magneto (somehow). I guess the magneto became weak so that’s the reason for the 12 volt coil. The points in the magneto control the spark – through the 12 volt coil. It seems to have good spark. Question… is this something I should stay with – or – should I refurbish the magneto back to the original?

    Default magneto

Bill, I saw the setup you're talking about one time on a farmall a that I restored for a gentleman some years back, he swore by the setup, I suppose the coil would be a cheaper replacement than fooling with the mag but I for one am partial to the kick of a fine tuned mag.
there are alot of good mag restorers out there I use mark's magneto in CT he is very fair, has a quick turn around and the item comes back looking and working like new. He even threw a new serial# tag on the one for my d6, won't be trying it for a while, but he stands behind his work 100%

My DW10 was set up that way when I got it. Just like a regular points distributor, it uses the coil for juice, and the points as a trigger. Must have worked...

Just out of curiousity, Bill, where have you been for the last 2(?) years?
Folks just figured you were busy....hope nobody ticked you off and we were being shunned!

Glad to see you back here again!

    Default Brand X...

    Hi Alan,

Well, I think some people got tried of "non-serious" posts so I took a break – and I got some less than faltering e-mails regarding the same.

Not to mention something else happened - Brand X...

And then, if that’s not bad enough… Daughter got this:

    Thumbs up "serious"

I have 19 antique tractors, 3 of which are D2's. I usually just lurk on this web site because of the "SERIOUS", but I really enjoy and missed your posts for their photos and content and your humor. Please don't let the "SERIOUS" deter you from entertaining those of us who aren't so "SERIOUS".

Default Glad To Have You Back

    Hi Bill,
"ditto" what d2mg said. As has been said before "You can't please ALL of the people All of the time"
I for one enjoyed Reggie's exploits and admiring you for having daughters who have an interest in Mechanical things. They are lucky to have a Dad such as you who has encouraged them along the way.
Keep up the good work, am now enjoying your posts on the "Hot Rod" 955 resto.
    Cheers,
    Eddie B.

Bill, personally liked the "non serious" posts, all it showed to me was a guy who knew how to have fun with his Cat. Nothing wrong with that at all. Not to mention you managed to find some attractive ladies to be around at the time! Too bad some sour apples spoiled the mood.
As far as "off brand" tractors and steam engines, I'm secure enough in my "Catness" not to be threatened by such things, I got a chance to pilot a steam traction engine around a fairgrounds some time ago, it was the highlight of the event!
I have no problems with IH red, or Persian Orange either. They get along fine with yellow...
Neither do these guys...in case you hadn't come across this before. Love the HD6G!

Darn near anything mechanized can be intersting. It's the singer, not the song......
Anyway, glad you are back, maybe you could drop by the "other" forum you still have friends there who have wondered what happened to you.
I posted the fact you were alive and well when you resurfaced here, feel free to drop by and say hello.
One of these days, you need to bring Reggie, the D2 and the clan, and come to one of the Spring Flings the "Other guys" put on. It's probably going to happen in Oklahoma this year.
    Take care til next time.

Besides, some of us were living our social lives vicariously thru you.

    Bill,

It is great to have you back. I think many of us have been "hammered" on by other members that don't share our zest for life and our pleasure at getting our family involved with precious metal.

Each week I would always look for your posts Bill. Having a whole family that enjoys a common interest...well that is just not found these days...and it is very refreshing to read about all the Glenn exploits and adventures!

You just keep posting...because we will keep reading and enjoying!

Also...I have a 1943 Allis Chalmers B with a Henderson front end loader...that I enjoy as much as my TEN. For me...I tend to be color blind when it comes to restoring old equipment...

Thanks for making our day enjoyable...and keep us posted on your new projects!

    Bill,
I am sorry to hear that some people turned you off of ACMOC some time ago.
I myself enjoy the additions people have to make that maybe non cat.
Just look at the post for "farming with steel tracks", 175 post wow, and some great pics too.

I guess if those same people start complaining again, you can say evertything has a time and a place, soo we need that place. If you look at the other site the one place that has the most traffic in the "off topic" section, maybe we need one of those on the ACMOC board as well.
    Just a thought
    Keep up the good work.
