    Default spin on remote filter

Team, In my box of left over parts (I've saved everything over the last 50 years!) I found a remote filter housing with 3/8 FPT in and out, it has two 5/16-18 tapped holes in the top to attach a bracket which could be bolted to the engine. My question is, is this worth the bother? The last sock filters I bought from Advance Auto were about 20 bucks for all three. I guess my idea is the more you add to a machine the more that can go wrong.
    any thoughts?

The sock filters are fine, lots of capacity there, plenty effective. The thing that's missing is a screen or filter before the transfer pump. Rust and dirt from the tank can really quickly ruin a pump. CAT added a fine screen between tank and transfer pump on all machines I have looked at around 1960.
