Default D4 won't Start after Rebuild any help would be great

Hi everyone I got go done overhauling my D4 2T. And now after the overhauld went to fire the old girl up and was a no-go. I had to get a new head for the old girl fter the exhaust valve broke and bent the intake valve and beat the heck out of the top of the pistion. The head is a brand new head with nwe valves, springs, precups and all new seals and gaskets. Put the D4 all back together and went i went to fire it up nothing. It will fire on either but that is about it. I have white smoke from exhaust but will not run. the fuel rack is moving and plungers are al moving up and down in pumps. I m not sure if when i took the injector valve apart i might have messed up the adjustment of them and thats what is stopping it from firing up. I put in all new rings and replaced the messed up piston. Im unable to run pony motor for a long lenght of til because it will start to overheat the pony when i open the vent on the manifold assembly it start to get steam out the the airbleed vent after running for 3 to 5 mins. i removed the ponymotor and cleaned out all the water passages on the bottom of the motor and the heads and block and back flushed everything really good and still wants to overheat. must have water leak someplace after running the pony twice the oil was milky white. I have anthor pony motor to put to but needs ne connecting rod and new .10 rings. pony was pulled from machine and replaced with current pony off of my parts D47J. Any body have any ideas what im doing wrong or where the water is comming from?

    Thanks,
    Dan from Pa

hello Dan, did you leave the cock open when you filled the rad with water ?
you may have a air lock in the pony .

did you bleed the fuel pump /filter housing /injector pumps /injectors .
may still have air in the lines ,did it show fuel pressure on the gauge when it was turn over ?.
    .just some ideas ,bruce oz

It will start on ether and won't keep running, I would investigate fuel injector spray pattern by removing and reinstalling them out over the track or upside down over the head to watch them spray. Be careful and keep away from the spray so you don't get fuel injected.

If you had the injectors apart the correct adjustments are probably lost. They a very touchy to adjust....the 1500 psi breaking pressure is fairly easy but the 0.007 lift is really sensitive.

About the only way you can get water in the pony crankcase is past a gasket or through cracks.

You mention cleaning out the pony water passages but did you check to see the water return passage through the clutch housing back to the main is clear. The D4400 is fairly famous for collecting crud at the rear of the cylinder bank that will block or restrict the passage and flow.

If the pony is overheating, then probably the cooling system is restricted. When I cleaned the water jackets on my D2, I was surprised as to how much rust and crud were built up along the bottom of the sleeves. The bottom passage from the main engine to the pony maybe restricted which is causing your lack of circulation.
As far as the white smoke out of the exhaust, do you mean alot or a small amount? It can take a while to bleed all the air out of the system.

yes i opened the vent on the ponymotor to let all the air out as i fill the rad. the pony motor water passage was blocked with rust and crud and rad sealer that my grandfather put in about 8 years ago i noticed that the head water passages were blocked when i removed the ponymotor cylinderheads i had cleaned them out and when i pulled the ponymotor the base passage at the bottom of the ponymotor to the desil was blocked solid cleared that and still wants to overheat hadent checked the fuel pressure while turning the big motor willl check when i try the next time i start ponymotor. I bleed all the injector pumps, tank and lines.

i have a lot of white smoke while im turning the motor over undercompression. could the injector valves be out of adjustment? or just air still in system

With lots of white smoke either it's not spraying the fuel right, engine isn't hot enough yet, or compression is low. Definately check the spray pattern. One of these days I'm gonna get my 7J done.

Here is a picture of what the rear cylinder looked like on my 7J.
