    Default Could be d2 problems?

Yesterday took the d2 over to the neighbors house to level out a area for her horses.
Normally I chug around about half throddle, never running wide open.
As I started to dig, I quickly realized that the half throddle thing is not going to cut So I pulled the throddle all the way back and continued to cut.
Everything seemed to be just dandy then all of a sudden I felt rain drops hitting my face.
The sun was in full bloom and there was not a cloud in the sky.
I Stop the cat looked at the engine and water was pouring out of the water pump!!
After a few swear words,I decided to let her cool down.
After about 2 hours,I filled her up with water, but this time I left the radiator cap loose.
    Has not leaked a drop.
My d2 is a late model 179?? .The radiator cap is the screw on style??? There is a little unit off next to the cap,is this the vent, and could it be clogged and not letting out the pressure??? so it went out throught the water pump??? or is the water pump shot???
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
Also, Would anyone have the part # for the end pieces on a tool bar dozer.

    Default Overflow Tube

    Hi compressor,
sounds like you have diagnosed your problem yourself. I do not have a late model Parts Book to check but from what you describe of the unit to the side of the Rad cap should be the Relief Valve as fitted to later machines/engines of all sizes in the Cat range.
Either dirt daubers have blocked the radiator overflow tube or/and the radiator relief valve has jammed shut or is clogged also. Sometimes rust builds up in the drilled passages leading to and from the R/valve. Dismantle it all and see what you find.
Sounds like tour system overpressured the w/pump seal and relieving the pressure did the job of troubleshooting it for you.
I would check and be sure the relief circuit is clear and free to work as designed and if so then re-test the unit with the cap fully on and if the pump leaks again you will know the answer to the pumps integrity.
Sorry cannot help with P/No's for the Tool Bar parts.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Eddie B.

    Default Hi compressor

I had the same problem and found the pressure relief valve stuck. Enclosed is a picture. It takes two gaskets of which I have some spares I do believe. Let me know if you need some.
    Have a good day....Bill

    Bill,
Are the gaskets rubber or cork?

    Hi Erik,
I believe the gaskets are form of "rubber". The same thing that you get today with any thermostat housing gasket on a car or truck.

I also have a new Cat fan belt 5F7676 that is not correct for my late model D2 but will be okay for the earlier ones......at least that is what I found out here on the BB.
