I’m new to this site. I’ve joined in hopes of keeping a D6B active on a mining site.
Problem: want to locate replacement track tension spring. Probable sellers need serial number. Cat dealers do not know location. I have searched the entire cab and engine area. No joy. I am hoping one of our members can assist here. One place I was unable to search was under the rear winch that was mounted as an option. Any ideas, Thanks, Fred

I’ve came Accross a source that confirms my D6B serial number is likely on outside rear of cab, under winch. I have a supplier, Tracer Equipment in Fairbanks, AK that’s locating and ordered the parts required. I appreciate being able to visit this site. Thanks

On the left side of the engine block just under the head joint about halfway along or towards the rear, if the plate is missing and you can see the remains of the rivets or rivet holes, clean the area between them and the number is stamped in the block.

Before you use the # on the engine, it is possible the engine could have been replaced. Number on rear frame is safer to trust.

Thanks. I looked over this area and found tag missing and an alternate number 59 stamped in its place.

D6B's are either 37Axxxx (narrow gauge) or 44Axxxx (wide gauge) if US built. There is no 59 series D6's. There is a 59Jxxxx but that's a D4D model.
There is a 69Jxxxx D6C model with D333A engine (3-1/2" bore).
There is also a D333A industrial engine with 59Bxxxx s/n.
Your engine may have been changed as previously stated.

Post a photo of the machine plus a couple of the engine to see if we can help.
