Introduction of the New Website September 1, 2020

Hello everyone,

It is finally here. Our new website will "go live" on September 1st. I know many of you were holding your breath thinking it would never come but you can now exhale! Prior posts have involved discussions of what changes will take place. In what follows, I will attempt to explain how the new site will work-

For the new Forum (bulletin board)-

There will be two designations for participants of the Forum - "Registered Guests" and "ACMOC Members."

The "Registered Guest" designation will be for newcomers or those previously registered here on our current BB as "guests." After September 1, each new "Registered Guest" will be able to initiate three individual posts with "Full Access" granted. After the initial three originating posts, the "Full Access" i.e. the ability to see all attachments or photos, will be removed. Club membership will be required in order to continue with "Full Access" granted to the title “ACMOC Member.” Safeguards will be in place to restrict "guests" from continuing to re-register under new names or otherwise attempt to avoid being restricted. Those who choose to remain as participants of the BB as "Registered Guests" will be able to continue to post and reply as now for questions like "How old is my D4 that I have inherited recently?" Or "What is the part number for (whatever) on my 3J D2?" with any answer to such a question able to be viewed. In other words, what goes on now will continue but any attachments from parts books, sales literature, photos, etc. will not be visible to non-members. The public can view the Forum in general but will need to become a “Registered Guest” in order to post.

"ACMOC Members" and “Registered Guests” will also be able to access portions of the Members Area which will contain "Chapter Landing Pages" where each chapter will be able to maintain their own content for what is happening in their respective chapters. Further, we are working to post more detailed operating, servicing and parts information from Caterpillar sources for much of the equipment discussed here in the Forum. We will be expanding this content as it becomes available as time goes on to further encourage membership.

We regret that the changes taking place may negatively affect some of our current BB users but we feel a yearly cost of a Club membership for $40USD/year (includes voting rights but the magazine being available electronically only) is not all that much when the information provided here on the BB can be invaluable to those who need it. Many here have previously expressed that they have gotten much value from their participation here. We hope that you will agree.

We regret that donations to the club are such that no compensation can be given which would include continuing Full Access. That would not be legal for the Club to honor a donation in that way. We have also discussed a BB fee without a club membership but the accompanying administration of such precludes our setting up that type of fee system.

The website is still a work in progress and many adjustments and tweaking remain to be done in the next few weeks. From our initial "dry runs" to date, we can already see that it is more robust and easier to navigate for everyday operations. Both as visitors and members alike, we think you will find it much improved.

As always, I will entertain questions or comments (just not nasty ones please!)

Jan, your work on this issue is greatly appreciated. This BB provides a service like no other and $40 annually is nothing compared to the value one receives.

D-4 7U-43159 with 4S dozer and Cat 40 scraper, D-7 3T-1179 with Cat 7S hydraulic dozer, D-7 17A 13,944, D-8 14A-1160 with Cat 8S cable dozer, Cat 12-99E-4433 Grader. All runners and users.

This sounds very fair to me, hopefully it doesn't cause to much heartburn with the guests. Considering that Western States Cat is right at $125 an hour (field truck and shop time are the same i think) you're getting a years worth of access to knowledge for less than 30 minutes of Cats valuable time.

nomore...

I will have to consult with our developer on that. We have not addressed that issue at this point. Thank you for bringing it up.

Jan, his small committee of volunteers, Mary and Adco staff have been working very hard to have the website up and running. There will be special introductory meetings next week for Chapter Leaders to see how the site works and to be schooled on the operations of the Chapter Landing pages.

I hope members understand and appreciate Jan's hard work, whilst he is a Director, he does all this work as a volunteer without any remuneration, I personally wish to take this opportunity to thank him very much.

Dues are Annual so does this mean from Registration date or is there a specific month that Memberships expire?
Thanks!

I have saved a number of links to threads that I want to recall. Will the links to these threads be the same in the new website?

Drujinin,

We are on a quarterly basis so which ever quarter a membership is taken out, the year expires at the end of the same quarter the following year.
