Gosh Eric---you have a bargain on your property taxes---I average $30 a day on my 1/3 acre and ranch house!!

Dan how does that break down between your property tax and your school district fees? In Monroe Cty, my annual cost is $8k made of 3k property tax and 5k school tax (but we have a top 100 school district country-wide so since I have 3 kids there, I'm getting a private school education for super-cheap - I don't know why all my neighbors with kids complain....). Property value in town here is about 350k for house and 2/3 acre. If I move to the next town over, school tax goes down to about 3.5k / yr but the graduation rates and the GPAs aren't as good.
Taxes are based on the most recent sale price for the property plus annual inflation so I'm about $22/day. I'm guessing you're paying a Lon Gisland premium as well / proximity to NYC.

Cheers,
Neil

Neil--total tax last year was about 10,200 of which 6800 was school tax--which was reduced by 1200 from star basic and another 1200 for vol fireman

the 3400 for general taxes consists of county taxes,county police,town wide taxes,town highway,mta tax,open space preservation refuse collection.fire district,lighting district,out of county tuition.snow removal
you name it and they tax it

the assessed value is .86% of full value which is $346,000
quite a few companys here that will grieve your taxes for 1/2 the first year savings if they win, which i have done a few times

ACMOC antique caterpillar machinery owners CLUB complete with local chapters local members who donate their time to be officers people that help each other out restoring antique vintage machinery and take them to Local and national shows to be around other like-minded people with the interest in vintage machinery. The forum is part of the club and yes it’s a club

I understand this, but I think a lot of people who are registered users on the forums are just that, forum users. They take no part in all of that other physical stuff that costs $$$. The vast majority of people on these forums are non-members and it will likely stay that way I think. If I as a non-member want to help out another non-member within the new framework, it will likely be more effective to tell them to hop on over to heavyequipmentforums.com or the like and start a thread there, as data exchange can occur freely.

I guess this brings up another question I had. Will non-members be able to put links in their posts? View links in others' posts? Because if the answer is yes, this is probably how many will circumvent the new rules of no attachments. Just use links to imgur or Google Drive as opposed to actually uploading attachments.

I thought John had an excellent question when he started this thread, the only way to find out is to ask, then it kind of became a real estate comparison, back on track.
I joined at the encouragement of Dan Wilhelm as he knew of my interest, even though I have been employed at Cat for several decades. In hindsight it might not have been the most enjoyable experience at times in 2018 and 2019, but I did learn many things, and had the opportunity to experience member events, shows, meet new individuals all with differing levels of knowledge and experience that I would not have enjoyed if not a member. I prefer the printed version of the magazine as I said a couple times in the old Presidents column, so I am willing to pay what it costs. I congratulate the Board on the decision to make this leap, it has been talked of for several years, always the fear of the "what if" reared its head, maybe it way a push comes to shove decision. In answer to a question from the quote, it does look like links are possible and they should be turned off in my opinion. Don't take this BB for granted, compare it to several others, there is a reason they are the way they are, the members have an interest in them, donate if you wish, but support the club, and become a member.

I guess I agree, because people will use links as opposed to attachments, that's really how most other forums work anyways. However, if they do remove hyperlinks, the site really does become quite useless to non paying members, but maybe that's the way club members want it to be...
