Sounds like the sticking ability is common to all mag drills, not just mine : ) I used mine to drill out the lug bolts for the 2S mounts that bolt to the track frame so there was plenty of flat surface to adhere to but I wonder if wire-brushing the surface might have helped

Almost went blind comparing mag drills...should have cheaped out and got a basic unit, but if I didn't try to do it right, I would never hear the end of it!
I went ahead and ordered a Hougan HMD917S. 2 speeds, swivel head, drill chuck, etc.
If I like this unit as much as planned, I will purchase some more goodies to go with it.
Most likely I could have gotten by with a single speed low profile unit, but this one will allow me to do more. The cost should only "sting" once.
Now I won't have to hire out any large drilling/boring jobs. Our shop drill press just does not cut it, it was a POS when new, but that is difficult to explain to the powers that used to be here.
Gonna lock this one up and out of sight. Thank you everyone for your input, a tremendous help. JM

whatever you buy don't be afraid to feed them annular cutter needs a good steady feed harder than one would think to work well and not dull the cutter by rubbing. you can get a cordless one now too.

I will have spent almost double what I had intended. Never heard that now have we? LOL.
The only thing I lacked was the self feeding option, and I would have gone to Milwaukee brand to get a cordless. I am not ready to take that plunge. Expensive!
The next cordless item planned would be a nice 18V 1/2" or 3/4" impact gun. It would be nice to pop a few Budd wheel nuts off without having to pack an air compressor around in the service truck which I do not own!
We have come a long way since sledgehammers, prybars and brute strength.
Thanks to everyone that made suggestions and provided expertise. I even got thumbs up approval from Crawler$$$ and Travis H., so I am on the right track. JM

The Battery powered impacts are the best thing since sliced bread.  I have both Milwaukee and DeWalt for years and prefer the Milwaukee as it has more torque. There are probably some other good brands out there. The newer ones with the Lithium battery are probably much better yet.
Another handy gadget that I use a lot is a Torque multiplier for stubborn lug nuts. They can be had for about $50 to $60 on eBay and look like cheap Chinese junk but they realy work.  The ones I have are I believe 58 to one or 64 to one ratio and can take off a stuck nut with only a nominal force on a 18" bar whereas I used to use an 8 ft cheater bar on some truck lug nuts.

Great to hear. I’ll try a Milwaukee 3/4” brushless.
I love having good tools. No such thing as too many here. I lost a lot of tools 18 years ago and still having a tough time replacing what was taken.
The only cordless impact I have is a 3/8” Snap On.
Handy considering how compact it is.
One thing I noticed about Milwaukee tools, they are just like owning a computer printer; the equipment itself isn’t all that expensive, but like ink cartridges, you have to buy a couple of batteries and charger etc., then it becomes expensive LOL.
Thank goodness it’s a business expense. JM

The old Black and Deckers have the longest stroke, will just barely handle a 1 1/4" twist drill, do reread that word barely. They were made for twist drills, predate the popularity of annular cutters. They can drill in excess of 8" deep. Very heavy.

An update and RANT of the year (I think). The Amazon seller sent me the WRONG drill, not to mention it lacked the cutter kit and drill chuck. No problem they say! Cutter kit on its way! Well that was over ten days ago. Block my phone calls; all I want is the right unit... Now I go to FedEx and return it, because I am finally FED UP. So much for mag drills... I now find out that my favorite welding supply store actually carries the Hougen brand. As for the TERRIBLE sales service (or lack of) from the Amazon seller I would NEVER consider buying from that place. PM me if you wish to know where not to order from!
What was supposed to save me time and provide convenience has cost me a few coins, and lose faith in people. Yikes!
This reminds me of the "Shop locally" theme that many here preached. If you cannot service the customer or appreciate it, what is the point? Sadly, we will go out of the area to do much of our business to others that DO want the biz... Rant over. Time to go sulk and look at Cat items to pacify me.
Have a nice day everyone! LOL JM out of here!
